Style over substance
The British Website www.freepressreleases.co.uk had this to say about Daniel Imperato: "Offering an alternative to good looks and pocketbooks, Daniel Imperato presents his credentials as a candidate with substance."
Catchy comments, I suppose, but it really illustrates the problem with modern politics. People are far too consumed with the exterior rather than what a politician really believes. I'll never forget in the 2004 elections how so much attention was spent on the well-coiffed looks of John Kerry and John Edwards. Never mind that Kerry would've made a horrible president, but he's tall, has hair and a prominent chin, and that's all that mattered!
When it comes to choosing whom to vote for, the style of suits worn, whether the tie and socks match, the type of cufflinks used, all of that is irrelevant to me. America is facing a lot of serious issues--foreign and domestic--and I think that some are putting too much focus on "good looks". Not to say that Imperato isn't good looking (I'm a heterosexual man who isn't really qualified to judge handsomeness in men), but my point is this: having great looks, a great suit and being a sharp dresser mean nothing when it comes to the serious issues. Haven't we had enough of this with the eight disastrous years of the Clinton Presidency? |
