Imperato Campaign Going Strong in 2008
i1Connect News
Working to Unite Independents Leading independent presidential candidate Daniel Imperato – in his third year of running - is once again reaching out to the various third parties. He is traveling in Kentucky, Florida and Pennsylvania in the next few weeks urging they fuse together behind a common nominee as the only way to counter the two establishment political parties.
Imperato argues that the opportunity for an independent movement has never been so great. He cites getting help from new sources ranging from Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Senator Lincoln Chaffee – both of whom quit their establishment parties to become independents. Then came Lou Dobbs who wrote, it will take “nothing less than an independent voter rebellion” to wrest control of the two establishment parties from their corporate underwriters.
“Being on the ballot is the most influential election-altering strategy to impact the national dialogue”, stated Imperato. “I urge the Greens, Libertarians and Constitution Parties to consider using my campaign to fuse the diverse ideologies in the long-term interest of reforming the electoral system.” Before leaving Georgia Friday, Imperato urged former Congressman Bob Barr – another who quit his big party – to join with him as vice-presidential candidate.
Imperato restated his endorsement of the National Election Reform Platform (NERP) being promoted by Independent America, a DC based political committee that Mr. Imperato helped create. Leading the NERP, and collaborating with Imperato on an upcoming book, freelance writer Joseph Oddo is pleased to see the progress that election reform measures are making. “From instant runoff voting to the national popular vote to public campaign financing, great progress is being made and our citizens are responding. Now if we can get concerned citizens to run for congress and the senate in 2008, and for other local offices beyond, we can end the rate of unopposed elections that is currently an embarrassing 50%.”
Imperato added, “Since announcing that I was collaborating with Mr. Oddo on a book entitled Independent America in 2006, much of our platform that we put on the web was covered by Lou Dobbs in his book entitled ‘Independent’s Day’. It is great to see people like Dobbs promoting independents every night, but he is missing the value of encouraging citizens to run for office all over this land as true independents.
“We know we cannot rely solely on one individual, but the right combination promoting the right platform aimed to achieve confidence in the security of our elections will make a lasting impact on national elections. Oddo has dubbed me Mr. Independent for the proposals we address in the upcoming text. I am pleased to work with him on reversing the candidate suppression tactics enacted by both of the big two establishment parties. Mainly these include fair ballot access and inclusion in the debates.”
Oddo agrees with the need to fuse the various third parties to promote election reform. “It does require existing third parties to set aside some of their ideological differences in the short term for the lasting benefit of achieving a fair electoral process. The manuscript we generated for Mr. Imperato’s campaign is nearly complete and being edited for publication within a few months.
“In the meantime, there is still time for independents to come forward and run for congress. I admire Mr. Imperato’s willingness to take on the challenge of running nationwide, and urge other citizens to answer the call and get on the ballot for congress now. Call us, we can help! Local grassroots activity is essential so that independent voters do not once again waste their vote on one of the two establishment parties.”
When asked about former Senator Chaffee’s recent endorsement of Senator Barack Obama for the Democratic Party nomination, both Imperato and Oddo declared that Obama is the closest to being an independent that the Democrats could get. But once he secures the nomination, he will have to swing his allegiance to the establishment party machine to whom he is making thousand of promises in order to win.
